This city is an ordinance-designated city at the heart of the Ebu Urban Area, a regional urban area with a total population of 2.5 million, located in Amai Prefecture. The city alone has a population of 1.55 million. The city centre shows two faces: the business district 'Suzuzaki' on the JR station side and the downtown area 'Tenza/Mokuza' on the private railway Amai Electric Railway side. The transport network is quite extensive, with JR and underground lines as well as private railway lines and urban motorways up to line 5. (This has nothing to do with the actual town of Kofu, Tottori Prefecture.)
