Izumiyama City is made up of five districts: the Chuo District, the HigashiUsamachi District, the Koganeiro District, the Fushimigaoka District and the JinwaIzumi District. It is an ordinance-designated city with a population of 2.12 million. The city prospered when a large trading port was built in the middle of the Edo period , and many foreign companies moved into Izumiyama during the period of rapid economic growth, and office buildings still stand in front of the station. The city has been redeveloping the area under the municipal initiative to make it a 'beautiful and environmentally friendly city'.
